☁️ Our Mission

We want to empower individuals to dream bigger.

Building Blocks is a launchpad for youths: to adopt new ways of tackling problems; to find a community of driven, next generation of changemakers; and to explore and tinker with solutions. In our rapidly changing world, we want to equip youths with mindsets and toolkits for driving change and navigating the future.

Since we began in 2017, we’ve grown from a one-day conference for 30 students in NYC to reaching 350+ students across 4 continents via in-person and online workshops on social entrepreneurship and design thinking.

🕵️ Who we’re looking for

  • Energized. You are energized by our mission of helping individuals dream bigger. Whether it be teaching, creating new partnerships, or getting mundane tasks done in service of something bigger, you are excited to make a change.
  • Self-starter & motivated. You are excited to tackle gaps and opportunities that you see.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity & detail oriented. Ambiguity doesn’t overwhelm you, and you’ve had practice understanding, articulating, and demystifying murky waters. You are not afraid of details, and strive to think through different angles.
  • Growth mindset. You are actively looking to grow yourself and your surrounding communities. Things won’t always be easy, but you are confident that you can navigate.

💪 Roles & Responsibilities

As with all organizations, roles and responsibilities may evolve, but the following are high-level priorities for Building Blocks.

  • Operations. The jack of all trades! Get knee deep in the behind-the-scenes of running a non-profit and learning experiences. This can range from building resources for students and conducting market research, to thinking about sustainable revenue models, grant writing, and handling the details and logistics of workshops.
  • Growth & Partner Relations. How might we expand our impact and manage rapport with stakeholders? Think through how we may partner with others, expand domestically, run marketing experiments, and strengthen our growth funnels.
  • Learning Design. Curious about curriculum development? Help build and update our learning experiences to empower individuals to view the world differently.
  • Instructor & Instructor Development. Love teaching? Have startup/design thinking experience? We’re looking to train more instructors with the Building Blocks’ hands-on, immersive approach.

Some initiatives in pipelines:

  • Pitch competition in China: organizing feedback + mentorship, 2 virtual sessions
  • Social innovation fellowship in China: design thinking sessions
  • Introductory workshop to social entrepreneurship: virtual 6-week workshop (TBC)

🔥 What we ask from our team

  • 6+ month commitment. We want to ensure you have enough time to onboard, make meaningful impact, and learn.
  • Radical candor and feedback. As a growing organization, we care about your thoughts, ideas, and feedback. We ask that you share what we can do better to support you, and what is energizing. We look forward to growing with you through challenges, iterations, and fun.
  • This will be an unpaid volunteering position. We are in the process of figuring out a sustainable, scalable revenue model (one of the projects!) to provide compensation. Depending on budget, some initiatives may have honorariums. If this is a concern, please let us know!

💭 What we offer to you

  • Hands-on experience and growth in a global non-profit. Whether it be teaching or building relationships, organizational operations, or curriculum – you’ll get plenty of hands-on experience and exposure to how we work, grow, and manage.
    • Alignment with long-term interests. We’ll do regular check-ins to deeply understand your interests and hypotheses, so that we can align initiatives and responsibilities accordingly.
  • Sandbox to tinker and experiment. If you had ideas that you wanted to test out, you are more than welcome to leverage our existing base at 5+ countries and partners.
    • Some horizon 2 initiatives we are excited to explore include mentorship initiatives, alumni community, micro grants, youth ambassador programs, curriculum expansion, and so much more.
